Frequently Asked Questions
Is it alright if I fall asleep? Even if I snore?
Yes! During your massage feel free to relax deeply. People fall asleep and snore all the time. I’m used to it.
Should I make conversation?
If you want to talk during your massage I will happily talk to you. If you want to be quiet during your massage you are welcome to be quiet. I will follow your lead.
How much of my clothing should I remove?
It is common for people to remove all clothing, including bras, but leave their underwear on. You are encouraged, however, to undress to your comfort level and leave on whatever clothing you would like to leave on. Your feelings of safety are very important to me.
Do you mind if I take my wig off?
Not at all! Please make yourself comfortable. And, there is a mirror in the room for you to use after our session is over, if you’d like.
What should I expect from my first massage with you?
I will greet you and ask you how you’re doing. Then I’ll ask you to tell me about how your body is feeling. After we’ve created a customized plan for your massage I will step out of the room so you can undress and get underneath the sheet, so that you are completely covered. After a few minutes have passed I’ll knock and ask you if you’re ready for me to enter the room. I’ll put something called a bolster (cylindrical pillow) underneath your ankles and ask you if you’re comfortable. I’ll then encourage you to speak up at any point during the massage if there’s anything you’d like me to be doing differently, or if there’s anything I can do to make you more comfortable. Then the massage begins. If we agreed to work on pain relief, or releasing tension, you may feel pressure as I work to release clenched muscles. You are likely to become increasingly relaxed and present. When the session is over, I’ll tell you that I’m going to step out so that you can get dressed again. Whenever you’re dressed, open the door and we’ll chat a little more before you leave. Questions or concerns? Please feel free to reach out.
What if I need to cancel my appointment?
Simply use my website to send me a message as soon as possible, or use the button at the bottom of your confirmation email to cancel your appointment yourself. If you cancel with less than 8 hours before your appointment you will be refunded the full cost of the massage except for $25.00, which I retain as a fee per my cancellation policy.
Can I keep my binder on?
Absolutely. You will still feel the benefits of massage after our session should you keep your binder on.
What if I feel self-conscious about my body hair?
Don’t worry! Everyone has body hair; it’s no big deal. I mean this most sincerely: I’m not judging you.
How much should I tip?
It is customary to tip between $10.00 and $20.00 for a fifty-five minute massage, and between $20.00 and $40.00 for a one-hundred-ten-minute massage. Any amount of gratuity is welcome and appreciated.
When you schedule your appointment you will have the option to tip either 10, 15, or 20 percent of your total cost. There is an option to customize the amount. Thank you!
I got hurt recently, can I still get a massage?
It depends. If you are still in the early, acute stages of an injury I cannot massage you. A massage may make matters worse. Please be transparent with me about your injuries so we can discuss when it is safe to get a massage.
Are people ever creepy during a massage?
Yes, and it is awful. I will not tolerate any kind of disrespect. This includes hateful speech or actions. I reserve the right to terminate the session early if someone is speaking or acting inappropriately.
Where did you go to school?
I went the Carolina Massage Institute in Hillsborough, North Carolina in 2018. My North Carolina Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy number is 17942.
